Farm Aid
My hope is that we will see a White Buffalo of change at Farm Aid this year, in which offers more rockers and more global change agents their unique individual rockabeely jam's/ ideas. Mr Neil Young is a perfect example of this. I think each rocker has their own incomparable Americana rocker contribution, if you will. The photo below is Neil contemplating what he would like to say at the press conference 2006, when Farm Aid was attacked for misappropriating funds. I was happy to see Neil Young in person, challenging the reporter who questioned the organizations accurate fiscal accounting. Over 30 million dollars have helped Farms since the conception in 1985. Originally inspired by Bob Glefands World Aid to raise money for starvation in Africa. In the sprit of social contributions. Artist volunteer their time and road float to contribute to this effort on a yearly basis.
Recently while chatting with my elderly father, I learned of my heritage to this great city ( St Louis) of dreams. Come to find out, my great grandfather John Schwiete's had a lead part in building the "Mayors Bridge". For the one's that don't know. this is the bridge that the crew and patron’s come over to find themselves into the great city of St. Louis. The gate way to the west and the mighty Mississippi below. There are so many great stories that derive from these farms along these tributaries, rails and roads. It's such an epicenter of the country.
Pueblo Indians "Black Hawk Battle", In which is know as the largest of the Indian battles. Located East of the Mississippi, could be a inspiring historical inspiration. I think more bands and Global change agents should spend this day battling it out on several more stages and new green corporatism community meetings. Ultimately bringing a better understanding of farmers to the Metropolitan areas and to our urban America areas. More money and education to the farmer will never be a loss. Well maybe next year Willy will invite us all to join us at his place in Texas and we can really delve into the effort over the long weekend.
I myself wish the Obama Family and the entire administration would visit Farm Aid 2009 Direct TV, Whole Foods, and Soy Milk events. Not only as a act of good faith for our Family Farmers, but to embrace the grass roots change that needs to start now. Seeing that this administration is responsible for luring the idea of sustainable agriculture in the mix. President Obama could even introduce the first cap and trade coupon credits to the Farmers. In return potentially off set their practices as being a significant part as a global footprint. Maybe even Offer Hydroseeding gig's to any and all looking for jobs, by having them reseed this great land with( switch grass super bio fuel) one of the few crops that may just save us from our energy crisis. To say we have enough is not only not true, but a fallacy as we are very much "the super market basket" to the worlds grain, soy, and other products. This is where Factory Farm's ultimately have gotten the subsides that have made them such a super power lobbyist.
Just think about it. By President Obama taking the time to understanding and willingness to explain the Dead Zone of the Mississippi, would be brownie points in my book. We have so much to be grateful for. I'm extremely stoked that farm Aid is once again celebrating the united effort, to promote farmers and raise the conscious choices that we have the opportunity to make globally, locally and for our own health.
Besides the last years addition of Jamie Johnson ( you should have seen it in color). I wish a few of the old acts would return like the year "Wide Spread Panic" encored with Dave Matthew's". Some folks you would wish always to be around. Like Merle Haggard with patronage singing of "Rainbow stew". Last year with panache and zeal for life. The long time rocker Jerry Lee Lewis stole the show. This is the the third year that Native Texan Carly White has dazzled the audience with her red river jams. Leon Russell, JJ Cale, and So many others I wish could be a part of this exciting day. A day that touches so many peoples lives, who might not normally go to a concert or even listen to music. A chance to be apart of something bigger and a chance to take pride in the planet we live on. Now that this production is a full on stable for the 101 and TV specials. I think that the stories of the Farmers and the long list of supports like Patch Work Farms, who's Organic Pork is really some of the best I have ever had, would be recognized.
